Project Aukaha

With the planned development of the waterfront, central city, hospital and so on, Dunedin and wider region is looking at a 20-year period of stimulation in the economy through build projects. Ngāi Tahu is embracing a regional investment strategy and are funding Aukaha to investigate and test how we can get better social outcomes and economic benefits for Māori and Pacific communities.

If estimations are correct, we will be facing a shortage of skilled labour to meet future demands. We are collaborating with a number of training providers and companies to support Māori and Pacific people into this sector, as well as developing an apprenticeship scheme that will offer a high level of ongoing support to trainees (and consequently the employer) enabling their success and career development.

Along with apprenticeships we also want to see more Māori and Pacific people starting their own businesses and support them, and exisiting businesses, by championing the practice of social procurement, or supplier diversity, in our region.
